Sent from Tibet in NS 864 (1744 CE), this letter from Gosāīṃ Nehā Girī to Gosāīṃ Kubera Bhāratī in Patan reports disruptions to their cross-Himalayan trade operations. Girī explains that a smallpox outbreak has closed trade routes across the Tingri Plain, stalling commerce and freezing cash flow. He reassures Bhāratī that unsold goods remain secure in his custody, urges persistent collection of debts owed by partners in Nepal, and provides current Tibetan market prices for gold. |
