Abstract: This voluminous text is written by Hemarāja Śarmā (1878-1953), a Nāyaba Baḍāgurujyū (deputy highest pandit), who was entitled Vidvacchiromaṇi (the head gem among the scholars). This book was composed when the First World War was raging. Although Nepal was not directly taking part in the war, it was fully involved in helping Great Britain by supplying armies, accessories, and money. Hemarāja Śarmā was appointed to the War Office which was established by Prime-minister Candra Śamśera to take care of all the management related to the war. This book was written during wartime when the author was working in this office. The book records many historical facts, collects many historical documents and, apart from that, the author expresses his own feelings and opinions related to the war as well. Dineśarāja Panta edited this book and the edited volume was published by the Educational Publishing House in VS 2076. As mentioned by Panta on page no. ḍa in the editor's statement, he used two manuscripts to prepare his edition. The first manuscript was preserved in the collection of Bhadrarāja Śākya in Patan, while the second is in the collection of Prakash A. Raj, one of the grandsons of Hemarāja Śarmā. Panta's edition is entirely based upon the first manuscript, only minor inputs are taken from the second manuscript when the first one is not clear. The present manuscript is the third copy of the text. The description of the first manuscript that is given by the editor on page no. ḍa of the published volume shows that the first manuscript preserved in the Bhadrarāja Śākya's collection and the present manuscript are quite similar.
