Type, original: speech; original

Content

Abstract: This document is a speech delivered by Prime Minister Juddha Śaṃśera Jaṅga Bahādura Rāṇā (1875-1952) on the occasion of his 66th birthday. In his speech, the prime minister announces that the government is going to start a pension facility for those who worked in the Nepal Army. A military fund called Sainika Dravyakoṣa was already started, however, it was not sufficient to support retired armies in their old age. According to the new scheme, military personnel working in the ranks from Sipāhī up to Subedāra Insāyana would get their retirement after 20 working years and the personnel working above the lieutenant rank would get retirement after 25 working years. A retired army would get 20 per cent money in calculation with his previous salary as a pension until his death. As World War II was raging at that time, Juddha Śaṃśera wanted to send more troops to help Britain. In his speech, he mentions that those who are old and unable to fight in the war need to get their early retirement from the service and the fresh candidates would be recruited. On the fourth page of this document, there is a table listing the ranks of the army, their salaries and pensions. This booklet was printed by the Gorkhapatra Chāpākhānā (Press).
