| Abstract: |
Above the doorway of the devala housing the Kvāḥpā Dyaḥ there is a wooden toraṇa bearing the inscription “Śrī Ratnapura Mahāvihāra 1981 (VS)” corresponding to 1924–25 CE. Although the inscription itself does not fully express the circumstances of the construction, the descendants of Ratnākara maintain that they possess oral knowledge transmitted from their grandfather regarding the establishment of the bāhāḥ. According to this tradition, their ancestor Ratnākara was a gold merchant who constructed this bāhāḥ behind his residence and named it after himself. |
