Abstract
This document issued by Comander-in-chief to the concerned office on 30th of the dark half of Śrāvaṇa 1954 Vikrama era directs the concerned office to depute one person to oversee the repair work conducted at the Jogeśvara temple of Sankhu.

Synopsis
This document issued by Comander-in-Chief to the concerned office describes about the repair works that has to be taken place at the Jogeśvara temple of Sankhu. The koṭhārī of the Guṭhī Bandobasta AḍḍāBodhī Lohanī and kharidāraJujumāna when reported the previous situation to the authority, the order was made subsequently. The repair was required as the dilapidated roofs of the Jogeśvara temple started leaking. The upper roof of the temple was gilded while the lower roof was made of tiles. As the tiles worn out, it began to leak. One of the priests reported about this situation to the Guṭhi Kharca Aḍā. Then the situation was reported to the Lagata Jā̃ca Aḍḍā and the latter office ordered to find out whether there is a guṭhi of this temple or not and whether there is a contracted person for the repairing or not. The document also states that there is no objection in replacing the roof with pewter sheets. Beside it indicates granting an amount of rupees 7548 from the Kausī Tosākhānā to cover the expenses to arrange wood to produce 81 pieces of struts with images, and to pay the artisans and laborers. There is no obligation to bring wood from the store but permission is granted to cut trees from the forest. The repairing work is slated to complete within six months once it begins. For this period, a deputy officer (nāyaba mukhiyā) is assigned by paying a salary of 15 rupees per month for bookkeeping of every month in detail. He is ordered to submit the final details of the account by 35 days after the completion of the repair works. A subordinate army officer Tulārām Biṣṭa Kṣetrī is authorized to submit the report.
Commentary
The two-tiered pagoda temple of Jogeśvara is located in the sanctuary of Vajrayoginī which is locally known as Jogeśvara Caitya or Cibāhā Dyo and has an enshrined Buddhist caitya, which is unique in Nepal (Slusser 1982 vol. 1: 150). Local Vajrācārya priests carry out daily rituals at the temple. An inscription dated 1655 AD (775 NS) attached to the plinth of the Jogeśvara temple provides lists of land and duties of the sakhāsa khalaka's association towards the god Jogeśvara and goddess Vajrayoginī. This inscription describes the establishment of the guṭhī (Shrestha 2012: 222). It seems that the restoration of this temple took place time and again. However, there is no mention of the repair works that was carried out in the 1897 AD document as stated in this document. There is no trace of gilded roof either. In 2001 AD, Friends of Sankhu, a local NGO, initiated the latest restoration of this temple. They replaced the pewter sheets from its roofs with copper sheets as they were able to reuse the old copper sheets, which they removed from the temple of Hyāuṃkhvāḥ Māju when they renovated it (Shrestha 2012 2012: 419). Sad enough, because of the April 2015 earthquake, this temple now is in vulnerable situation. It can fall down anytime if a restoration is not carried out soon.
