Translation

[Regarding the ] following: Concerning the news of Lucknow which [we] received from the foreign country (i.e. India).

After the senior king had passed away, his son King Sureyyān ascended the throne giving nine crore to the British. They (the British) let King Sureyyān ascend the throne because the management of the affairs of King Darsan Siṃ would be hampered and there would be clash of the leader of the executive chiefs with the Britishers if Munnamyān had ascended the throne. King Darsan Siṃ also received honours. [However,] until now nothing has been arranged for the father1 of the king. The rumor is heard that the Lāṭha Sāheba also departed for Iran having taken 92 regiments. It might have reported to you whether this has happened or not. It was requested because [your] servant has to report whatever has been heard. Please excuse any discrepancy [in my report]. We [often] send the arjī, [but] never comes an order [from you]. Kindly keep the support to your servant. Thus on Tuesday the 14th of the bright fortnight of Jyeṣṭha of the [Vikrama] era year 1899 (1852 CE) from the residence Sallyāna. Let it be auspicious.

From here [eightfold] salutation and three times service from [your] servant Dariyāva Siṃ Basnyāt. Let it be auspicious.
