[Synopsis]
This lālamohara from King Surendra issued in VS 1919 (ca. 1862 CE) records and confirms the transaction of a sunābirtā between the seller Mana Tamoṭ from Maruṭola at the city of Kathmandu and the buyer Thākusiṃ Maḍhikamiṃ from Valāchiṭola. The document specifies the transacted plot as kheta, its area as 3 and half ropanī) and describes its border demarcatations. The sunābirtā was sold for 342,25 rupees. A permission fee (baksāunī) at the rate of 4 ānā per ropanī and a sales tax of 10% (dasauda) was collected, in total 35,125 rupees.1 The document confirms that the buyer holds his new possession as sunābirtā and is directed to pay the potā-tax for his land.
