Abstract

This lālamohara from King Surendra, issued in VS 1932 (1875/76 CE), records and confirms the sale of a sunābirtā by Lakṣmīgovinda Khupācī of Ṭhimī to Ratnavira Dai of Kvākā Ṭola.

Synopsis

This lālamohara from King Surendra, issued in VS 1932 (1875/76 CE), records and confirms the sale of a sunābirtā by Lakṣmīgovinda Khupācī1 of the Sugāla section of Yamā Ṭola in the town of Ṭhimī to Ratnavira Dai of Kvākā Ṭola. The document specifies the plot as being kheta and its area as 10 kanavās (= 0,625 ropanī), and goes on to describe its borders. The sunābirtā was sold for 53 rupees, and a transfer tax of 10 paisās at the rate of 4 ānās per ropanī was collected through an amālī2 . The document confirms that the buyer holds his new possession as a sunābirtā and is directed to pay the potā-tax for his land.

1. Text gives the name as Lakṣmigopīnda Khupācī. [⇑]

2. The back side of the manuscript suggests that the name of the amālī was Kuvera Josi, since in DNA_0013_0109 the name of the collector of the transfer tax is signalled on its back side through mārphat. [⇑]
