Saturday, the 1st of the dark fortnight of Āṣāḍha, in the [Vikrama] era year 1878 (1821 CE). May it be auspicious.
This is an order from two aḍais to provide additional wheat to four persons starting from the year VS 1878. It is one of ten documents (E_2778_0001 to E_2778_0010) recording the distribution of wheat, for the most part to various relatives of people working within the Hanumānḍhokā palace complex. All the orders date to the above year and relate to the wheat crop of Lubhuserā land in that year.
In the previous directives, the order to disburse wheat came from the kaparadāraGaruḍadvaja Pā̃ḍe. In this document, the two aḍais, Rājabala Ḍoṭyāla and Ramānātha Pādhyā, appear to be ordering the distribution of wheat. The person who is to make the disbursement is not listed. Aḍais were employed at the Koṭa Bhaṇḍāra, which managed the stores of foodstuffs within the royal palace complex. Each serā was also put under the management of one or a pair of aḍais.1 Rājabala Ḍoṭyāla also appears in relation to the Lubhu serā in the year VS 1880 (E_2764_0046).
This is not the only one of the ten documents to grant wheat to multiple people; similar lists of individuals also appear in E_2778_0008, E_2778_0009 and E_2778_0010. All the individuals receiving wheat here are identified by their relationship to another person, presumably one who was serving within the royal palace. Except for E_2778_0007, E_2778_0008 and E_2778_0010, all the documents in this series benefited the children of such servants.
