No. 3 1
A pūrjī from the Aḍā Jāca to the 5 Sarakāra Guṭhī Bandobasta Aḍḍā
Uprānta: The following has been learned: “After the Guṭhī Bandobasta made a list of the ornaments 2 put on the statue of the glorious Tripurasundarī of Bhādagāũ during processions, members of the guṭhī took responsibility [for them]. We members of the guṭhī took responsibility [for them], keeping them in our houses turn by turn. The statue [of Tripurasundarī] alone was left in the storehouse. After the theft of the previous statue, the Government 3 had a replica made and the procession of the year [VS 19]77 was held. Now the newly made replica has also been stolen by breaking the lock and unhinging the door.” Well then, if the statue was not made anybody’s responsibility, then who was at fault for not having done so? If it was somebody’s responsibility, then whose? Get restitution made within 15 days in accordance with the Ain and savālas and inform [this office]. [The Government] has written a note in the name of the Guṭhī Bandobasta Aḍḍā, stating that if the given deadline is not met, a fine of 20 mohararupaiyā̃s will be imposed [upon the guilty member(s) of the guṭhī]. This correspondence has come about following an order issued with a single stamp in the name of this office to act accordingly. Therefore, do the job of completing the mentioned task by the mentioned date and informing [this office]. If this is not done accordingly, then [further] action will be taken in accordance with the Ain and savālas.
Friday, the 16th day (gate) of Māgha in the [Vikrama] era year 1977 (1921 CE). Auspiciousness.

The present document is related to the theft of a statue of Tripurasundarī in Bhaktapur in VS 1977, and one of 15 documents, numbered by the NGMPP from K_0262_0051 to K_0262_0065, having to do with the matter. These documents were issued by the Aḍḍā Jā̃ca Śrestā Phāṭa, Guṭhī Bandobasta Aḍḍā, Guṭhī Jā̃ca Aḍḍā or Choṭī Jaṅgī Kotavālī of Bhādagāũ, or else addressed to these offices. The statue could not be found, and therefore the office decided to confiscate property belonging to the priest Jogabahādura Karmācārye for the compensation who was responsible for taking care of the statue (K_0262_0065).
