Prasasti of the document

Āge: Blessings to the venerable Colonel Kṛṣṇadhvaja Kũvara Rāṇā7 , a prince born of a prince

Uprānta: The guṭhī land of -1- (i.e., the glorious goddess Tripurasundarī) located in the Tripurākoṭ subdivision in Jumlā [and operating] under a lālamohara has been among our holdings from previous times. We had been taking care of money matters relating to guṭhī land and of the worship and other services for -1- (i.e., the glorious goddess Tripurasundarī). Previously, in the month of Jeṭha in the [Vikrama] era year [190]9, an officially signed document 1 was issued [ordering] that rājaguṭhīs be managed under the name of Captain Raṇameharasiṃ Adhikārī, and afterwards, in the month of Āśvina, [another document] under the names of SardāraKanakasiṃ Mahata, SubedāraNaravīra Basnyāta and ḌiṭṭhāBhavadatta. The issued documents concerned all the territory located west of the Bherī and east of the Māhākālī [rivers], and stated that guṭhī expenses including the emoluments of guṭhīyāras and [persons working in] the temple treasuries should be fixed, and any surplus revenue (kasara) taken. In accordance with the documents, all guṭhīs were examined at [their] various places, and [so] also this our guṭhī of the glorious goddess Tripurasundarī here. When the balance sheet of revenue and expenditures was drawn up, no surplus income appeared. Based on that, a list of how deeds of gift were recorded [in the accounts] was made during an examination in the month of Jeṭha in [Vikrama] era year 1910. Operations in the year 1909 and also in the year 1910 were based on this [procedure]. In the month of Śrāvaṇa in the year 1911, Ranu Sāhī and Bhūpāla Sāhī came angrily after us to collect [crop] rent on the guṭhī’s land, stating, “We received a written lease through the Doṭī Jāca 8 thanks to an overbid of 50 rupees. After an officially signed document [applicable] to the whole territory west of the Bherī reached the inspection office, the office confirmed [claims] in line with a tirjā bearing a stamp signifying approval of the accounts. Only in our case the guṭhī was snatched away from us without our having received any notice, after it had been operating on the basis of a lālamohara or, later, under the procedure involving accounts stamped by the inspection office.”

Hṛṣīkesa Pādhyā and Ratnacandra Pādhyā etc., brothers and sons of ThānīVīsnupada Pādhyā, came here to the Kacaharī of the Kausala with a terīja bearing a stamp from the inspection office for the accounts relating to the deeds of gift and registered a complaint, stating: “Regarding [our] guṭhī located west of the Bherī, in line with the procedure followed by the [inspection office] examiner, we too should have it maintained [under our name]; it should not be struck [from under our name].”

Therefore, an officially signed document was issued from this office asking that the guṭhī be examined as to the correctness of the aforementioned details. Afterwards, when an examination was conducted on a territory-wide scale in other territories, no surplus income was ascertained; it [also] appeared that the inspection [office] had issued a terīja stamped after the manner of a deed of gift and that the said Thānī Vīsnupada Pādhyā etc. had been operating the guṭhī up to the year [190]9/[19]10. [Therefore], the guṭhī should not now be snatched from the said Vīsnupada Pādhyā. Maintain the guṭhī according to the arrangements previously made by the Bherī western inspection [office] following [their] investigation and issuance of a terīja. Withdraw the written deed of lease issued in the name of the said Ranu Sāhī etc. If there are any additional details, evaluate them as usual and deal with them in accordance with the Ain.

Friday, the 6th day of the bright fortnight of Kārttika in the [Vikrama] era year 1911 (1854 CE). Auspiciousness.
