Synopsis
This document, dated Sunday, the 14th of the bright half of Kārttīka in 1944 VS (1887 CE), records a loan provided by the government of Nepal to members of a business house in Lhasa, among whom was one
Sāhu Harṣapati Udāsa, a trader residing in Ṭũ
Che, Kathmandu. The loss settled on was kālā mohara 200,000 in Tibetan currency. The Tibetan authorities credited this amount in rupees minus agio to the kausi tosākhāna as compensation for the looted wealth, in total gorkhālī mohara 97,087 rupees, 1 sukā, 2 ānās and 2 paisās. Once the amount lay in the official Nepalese residence in Lhasa, a request was made by the merchants to the prime minister and to the commander-in-chief of Nepal's army. They agreed to provide the money as a loan to Harṣapati Udāsa and the others without charging any interest for two years but requiring 10 percent interest if repayment was not made on time. An order was sent to the Sadara Mulukī Khānā to provide the loan to the merchants. This treasury drew up the present tamasuka and similar ones for each of the loanees. Mīra Subbā Bhāgavata Bhakta released the money and Nāyaba Diṭṭhā Puruṣottama Upādhyāya handed it over.
