Translation
[1r]
On Tuesday, the 3rd of the bright fortnight of Mārga in the [Vikrama era] year 1952
Venerable Deva Śamśera Jaṅga Rāṇā Bahādura donated in the name
of Venerable Karma Kumārī Devī 11 | 3 tolās of gold and 105 | 1 tolās of silver in the
British-Indian standard (kampanī tolā)1 .
Commentary
This inscription is engraved on a silver-coated wooden pole which serves as a
flagpole erected on the pinnacle of the Buṅgadyaḥ chariot. Since Deva Śamśera's wife
Karma Kumārī Devī died in the same year this inscription is dated one might assume
the donation was made on her behalf in relation to her death rites.2 Part of the
donated silver might have been used to create the cover layer of the pole.
Notes
1. In British
India one
tolā equalled 180 grains (
