On Monday, the 6th of the bright fortnight of Jheṣṭha in the [Vikrama] era year 1960, the venerable Commander-in Chief Bhīma Śamśera Jaṅga Rāṇā Bahādūra Varmā together with his wife1 —out of love for the glorious Matsyendranātha—donated [this] silver flag: 2||7 tolā of gold for the 2 [inlays] of sun and moon [and] 226|6 tolā of high-quality silver from Calcutta [for] the flag (?) together with [the flagstaff?]. Auspiciousness.
This silver flag which consists of a flagstaff with a mirror at its top and two penannts. In the middle of each penannt is a gold inlay: in the upper one an emblem of the sun, in the lower one an emblem of the moon. The inscription is engraved on the backside of the lower pennant. During the annual procession, the flag is erected on the pinnacle of the Buṅgadyaḥ chariot, where several objects donated by members of the Rāṇā family are placed (see NHDP_0001_0141, NHDP_0001_0142, NHDP_0001_0143, NHDP_0001_0144, NHDP_0001_0145).
