On the 3rd of the bright fortnight of Vaiśākha in the [Nepāla era] year 989 (1869 CE), The people who live at the vicinity of the glorious Caitya of Khācoche1 —out of love—offered [this canopy] to the thrice glorious Karuṇāmaya. Auspiciousness.
Commentary
The inscription is engraved on the ilāṃ which is set up over the image of Buṅgadyaḥ in the sanctum of the chariot. The object was donated in the same year than the tympanum (prabhā) (see NHDP_0001_0140) and therefore is most probably also a replacement for the chariot components destroyed in the fire accident of NS 988 (1868 CE).
