Notesduring the rule of Prime minister Vīra Śamśera Jaṅga Bahādura Rāṇā (1885-1901) Nepal was divided into 32 districts (20 in the Pahad and 12 in the Tarai). Even after the end of the Rana regime, Nepal remained divided into 32 districts, until it was reorganized into 14 zones and 75 development districts in 1961.
