first used by Dhaukala Siṃha Basnyāt and his family following a land grant by King Raṇabahādura Śāha in 1793, then used by Cautariyā Phattya Jaṅga Śāha, confiscated by Jaṅga Bahādura Kũvara Rāṇā after the Koṭ massacre, inhabited by Raṇa Uddīpa Siṃha Kũvara Rāṇā (Whitmarsh 2018: 60 n. 93), rebuilt under Vīra Śamśera Jaṅga Bahādura Rāṇā (Whitmarsh 2018: 61 n. 94), served as a residence and principal workplace for the king of Nepal since King Pṛthvī Vīra Vikrama Śāha moved into it in the 1880s;
