thuma

Notes [?] var. thuṃ; n. an administrative subdivision comprising a number of villages in the hills (M.R. Pant 2002: 136). According to M.C. Regmi 2002: 303 the chief of a thuma was a umarāu who "was required to supply fighting men, and perform other functions prescribed by the government from time to time." A subdivision of a tahasila (Kumar 1967: 168).
