n. a class of Brahmins who are also called dākṣiṇāya pundits and originally came from Maharastra and were brought to Kathmandu by the Malla Kings. The smārta rituals of the Paśupatinātha temple are still carried out by the Bhaṭṭas coming from Karnataka.
