gāine

Notes var. gāinyā; n. the 4th lowest caste (superior to Cyāmes, Poḍhes and Vādīs) among the Untouchables in the Mulukī Ain’s caste hierarchy (MA-54.160.3). The Gāines used to carry out the profession of singing and dancing at the houses of other caste fellows to make their livelihood.
