pañcāyātī maṭha

Notes [S.] n. a 'collective' monastery (maṭha) of the Nātha Yogīs whose head (called pīra, mahanta, pīramahanta or rāja) is elected for a limited period of time and not for life as in a 'private' monastery (nijī maṭha). These maṭhas do not belong to a particular pantha but to the Nāthas as a community. They are in charge of the cult of the pātradevatā (Bouillier 2017: 66f. and passim).
