koṭapāla

Notes n. 1) chief or protector of a fort (cf. NBŚ: "killāko surakṣā garne vyakti; koṭako adhipati; durgarakṣaka"). 2) an official appointed in the eastern Tarai districts to recover stolen property or else compensate the owner (cf. Regmi 1970 (No. 7): 175 ). See also koṭavāla.
