Uprānta: The instruction letter written on Friday, the 15th of the bright fortnight of Āṣāḍha and the copperplate which [you] had made arrived on Wednesday, the 11th of the bright fortnight of Śrāvaṇa. Studying the copperplate and the instruction letter, I was filled with joy and bowed my head [to your feet]. From earlier days until now the garden [of your] feet has protected me and made me enjoy happiness. From now on too I shall be a child of [your] feet. My abode in all [four] directions is [that] of [your] feet. How should I devote [myself] and supplicate [to you]? If you send me instructions regularly, I will be protected.
Thursday, the 12th of the bright fortnight of Śrāvaṇa in the [Vikrama] era year 1892 (1835 CE). Residence: Jājarkoṭa. Auspiciousness.
Greetings from the venerable King Dīpanārāyaṇa Śāha from here. Auspiciousness.
The background to the present letter is unclear. In any case, its sender was very probably King Dīpanārāyaṇa Śāha of Jājarkoṭa (Pandey 1972: 61), and its recipient King Rājendra. King Dīpanārāyaṇa Śāha of Jājarkoṭa, the son of Indranārāyaṇa Śāha, grew up in Kathmandu, married Princess Durgākumārī Devī, the daughter of Raṇa Bahādura Śāha, and died in 1854 (Pandey 1997: 315-316).
