Hail! [A lālamohara] of him who is shining with manifold rows of eulogy [such as] ’The venerable crest-jewel of the multitude of mountain kings’ and Naranārāyaṇa (an epithet of Kṛṣṇa) etc., high in honour, the venerable supreme king of great kings, the thrice glorious great king, Pṛthvīnārāyaṇa Śāha; the divine king always triumphant in war.

Āge: To both Dhanaju and Bhajū Muni Timālyā of Taumāḍhi Ṭola of Bhātagāva (Bhaktapur), the grand sons of Hāku and the sons of Siṃhāju.

A loyalty fee (salāmī) has been levied on you, as on eighteen thousand (fellow townsmen). We have received 51 rupees through Kahara Basnyāta. We have annulled all claims and lawsuits relating to the levy and are providing you a release document. Similarly, in Kathmandu and Patan, we have freed you from whatever [you owe for] houses, fields and loan (lahanā) repayments (tāgādā) [made to you]. Being dutiful, maintain the houses, fields and the business [you own]. Enjoy in a frugal manner (ughāī) the loan repayments [you hold as assets].

Sunday, the 15th of the bright fortnight of Agahana (i.e., Margaśīrṣa) in the [Vikrama] era year 1827 (1770 CE). Residence: Kāntipura. Auspiciousness.

Commentary

This document is a lālamohara regarding the levy imposed by Pṛthvīnārāyaṇa Śāha to the citizens of the Kathmandu Valley after conquering it. From what is mentioned in the upper margin, this is a photocopy of the original. The upper margin also contains a signature, probably attesting the photocopy. See also E_2825_0004, a document with similar content issued from Bhaktapur by Pṛthvīnārāyaṇa about three months later than the current document.
