Abstract

King Rājendra grants one house in Asan Ṭola to the priest Rādhāramaṇa Arjyāla. The saṃkalpa for the donation was made when Kasi Jāla, the juniormost concubine of King Raṇabahādura, became a satī in VS 1863.

Āge:To the purohitaRādhāramaṇa Arjyāla.

We have granted a kuśabīrta [to you], 1 house at Asan Ṭola, for which a ritual commitment (saṃkalpa) was made at Śrī Ārjyātīrtha when venerable Kasi Jāla, the youngest concubine grandmother, performed satī on Friday, the 15th of the bright fortnight of Vaiśākha, in the [Vikrama] era year 1863 (1806 CE).

Date: Sunday, the 7th of the bright fortnight of the first Āśvina 2 . [May there be] auspiciousness.


Commentary

This document belongs to series of copies of similar land grants (K_0096_0052 to K_0096_0060) issued by King Rājendra (r. 1816-1847), which, however, does not contain the praśasti of the king. Through this document Rājendra fulfils the saṃkalpa made on occasion of a royal suttee. Kasi Jāla was the concubine of Raṇabahādura Śāha, as the term in the document used for her—bajyā "grandmother"—testifies.
