The lālamohara of which the present document is a copy was issued by King Rājendra in the name of Rūpanātha Gosāī̃ (text: Rupanātha Gosāī) on Sunday, the 5th of the dark fortnight of Pauṣa in the [Vikrama] era year 1877 (1820 CE).1 It reconfirms the land mortgaged by the state (bā̃dhā) for the sum of 160 rupees in the former realm of the king of Phalabang (text: Phalāvaṃṅ) after it had been examined and confirmed by inspectors (jā̃cakī) ten years earlier, in VS 1867 (1810 CE)2 . The plot of land bordering (vārnyā) Ḍā̃ḍā in the district (ambala) of Phalabang (text: Phalāvā̃ṅ) consists of 20 khetamurīs. Its borders are, in the east and the south, raikara land, in the west the birtā of Haridatta Pādhyā Ḍhakāla, and in the north the property (? javadi) of Manu Jaisī. The addressee is to dutifully conceive the bā̃dhā [as his] and enjoy [its fruits].
The copy is attested as correct by MahantaChatranāthajī's disciple, Lokanāthajī, and ḌiṭṭhāDyotīprasāda.
Naraharinātha's edition also records the signatures that are on the backside of the original, according to which the lālamohara was channelled through (mārphat) Raṇaudyota Sāhā, Prāṇa Sāhā, Bhīmasena Thāpā, Raṇadhvaja Thāpā, Jagajīta Paṇḍe, Dalabhaṃjana Pāmḍe, Mahāvīra Adhikārī and Udaye Gīrī (all names are spelled as in Naraharinātha VS 2022: 461).
The document is part of a series of confirmations Mahanta Rūpanātha received from King Rājendra in 1820 and the following years (see Naraharinātha VS 2022: 461f.).
The copy edited here was probably prepared in 1907 (VS 1964) to be sent along with a petition (bintīpatra) submitted by Lokanātha, one of Rūpanātha's later successors, to Kathmandu (see K_0469_0033).
