1 Hail! On Thursday, the 2nd of the bright fortnight of Māgha in [Nepāla Era] year 746 (1626 CE), the capāḥ to the west of Ślako Bāhāra2 was renovated and a guṭhī was set up by endowing land with an income of 20 pāthīs of rice (puvā), [worth] 6 ṭaṃkās. The renovation was led by Pātravaṃśa Rāvurtta Śivarāma Bhāro, a resident of a house west of Yaṃchurācha3 . On the day of the Nugaḥyāḥ (text: Noglāta)4 , 14 [butter] lamps are to be lighted at the phalcā [of the capāḥ]. One lamp is to be lighted in honour of Gaṇeśa5 . [Additionally,] 2 pāthīs of syāḥbaji, 3 pāthīs of thvã (rice beer), meat worth 4 ṭaṃkās, peas worth 1 rupee, 6 clay pots of yoghurt, 3 kuruvās of beaten rice, and soybeans are to be donated [to the capāḥ]. Bekhā (from the household of the guṭhī chief), Hākurāma, Jayacanda, [and] Jasirāja are the persons responsible [for collecting these donations]. Anyone who, acting out of greed, houses kuslejogīs here at the capāḥshall incur Pañcamahāpāpa. Rathanacandra from Kadhu Bhujyāritvāra is the chief of this renovation work. Auspiciousness! One portion [of a feast] must be given to a jogī.

Commentary

The inscription was installed upon the completion of the renovation of the capāḥ. Interestingly, the team that carried out the renovation also set up a trust to celebrate the arrival of the Buṅgadyaḥ chariot to Nugaḥ. The inscription instructs the responsible persons to collect certain donations and light butter lamps at the capāḥ and the Gaṇeśa temple nearby. An edition of the inscription is also available in Vajrācārya VS 2056, 63-64.

Notes

1. A symbol of auspiciousness []

2. I.e., Su Bāhāḥ (LAL1920) []

3. Probably Vachulāchi. []

4. Nugaḥyāḥ is the day when the Buṅgadyaḥ Chariot (LAL0001) is pulled from Gā Bāhāḥ to Nugaḥ, Sundhara in Patan. []

5. This probably refers to the Gaṇeśa in the Gaṇeśa Mandira (LAL1910) in front of the capāḥ. []
