[In the main text:]

Āge: To Hanumana Siṃ Mahāṭa

We [hereby] grant [you] the authority (akhatyārī) over tasks [assigned to the] biseṭ of the Tripureśvara Mahādeva temple. Do the work diligently in consultation with the bhaṭṭa and pujāhārī, without modifying the rules (vidhi) written in the previously issued copperplate bearing the royal seal (moharatāmrapatra). Remain present for the service entrusted [to you], take the emoluments of a biseṭ and enjoy [them].

Sunday, the 10th of the bright fortnight of Māgha [in the Vikrama] era year 1877 (1821 CE). Auspiciousness.

Commentary

K_0002_0045B and K_0015_0017E are other copies of this document. The copperplate mentioned in the text was probably issued in parallel with the lālamohara found in DNA_0012_0016, which formalizes the Tripureśvara guṭhī. Apart from demarcating the borders of the endowed land for the temple and listing the rituals to be performed at the temple annually, it also identifies the people employed at the temple, including the post of biseṭ. For more details on the biseṭ's tasks see K_0019_0014A and K_0002_0044A.

Notes

1. It is unknown what the abbreviation and the number refer to. It is likely they were added when the copies were checked for their agreement with the originals. []

2. It is unclear what this sign signifies. It is possible that it is meant in lieu of a signature of the person who made the copy or the one who attested it. []

3. This number refers to the place of the document in the government ledger archived as Pā[hāḍa] Baṃ[dobasta] Ta[habila Phā̃ṭa] 1, whose entries were microfilmed sequentially by the NGMPP from K_0001_0020 (front cover and index) up to K_0004_0033. For more details see K_0004_0003A. []
