Commentary
This is a follow-up document on the caretakership (akhtiyārī) of the guṭhī founded by Queen
Kāntavatī for the supply of worship material
needed when worshipping the goddess at Gorkha
Palace on each eighth day of lunar fortnights; for more, see the
related documents K_0120_0020, K_0120_0021, K_0120_0024, RRC_0009_0002,
K_0015_0022B and K_0016_0028B. Two other copies of the document are extant as RRC_0009_0192 and RRC_0009_0413.
Notes
1. It is unknown what these abbreviations and the number refer to.
Possibly they were added when the copies were checked for their agreement
with the originals.
[⇑] 2. This number refers to the place of the document in the
government ledger archived as Pā[hāḍa] Baṃ[dobasta] Ta[habila Phāṭa] 1,
whose entries were microfilmed sequentially from
K_0001_0020 (front cover
and index) up to
K_0004_0033. The assemblage of bound material covers the
main body (i.e. excluding the initial and final formalities) of 468 royal
documents from the period VS 1830–1894 that pertain to
guṭhī affairs.
[⇑] 3. The royal
purohitaRaghunātha Arjyāla was likely the person who
signed on the backside of the original
lālamohara as its
intermediary (
mārphat).
[⇑] 4. The date is given at the beginning of the
batch of documents (preceding the entry
K_0003_0035A) as "date: Thursday,
the 14th of the dark fortnight of Pauṣa" (
miti pauṣa vadī 14 roja
5). Altogether three documents are copied under this date. The
year VS 1890 is given in the index and at the beginning of some of the
previous entries (e.g.
K_0003_0033C). This date corresponds to 9 January
1834. At that time the reigning king in whose name the original
lālamohara must have been issued was King
Rājendra.
