[main text:]

Hail. [This is] an executive order of the supreme king of great kings.

Āge: to LokanāthaGosāī̃

In an earlier time SiddhaBhagavantanātha put in place [the following] regulation: "Once a disciple is made the master (mālika) and installed [on the throne], the other disciples shall obey that mālika by serving the estate. There is [to be] no partition of property (aṃśabanḍā)." We have come to learn that [the monastery has been run] unchanged in accordance with it for four generations up to the present.2 We have come to learn that your guru Rūpanātha3 made you the mālika—gave you [the office]—before leaving (i.e. before dying). Accordingly, we confirm [this] and [hereby] issue a mohara. Confer blessings upon us and remain dutiful.

Monday, the 5th of the dark fortnight of Āṣāḍha of the [Vikrama] era year 1899 (1832 CE).4 Auspiciousness.

Commentary

The NGMPP reel K 469 contains four copies of documents regarding Bhagavantanātha's monastery which are attested by a person from Rānāgāũ whose name is either spelled Loka Bahādura (K_0469_0034 and K_0469_0037), Lokaprasāda (K_0469_0035) or (as here) Lokapra[.] Bāhādura and whose signature usually reads as Loka Bāhādura. The present document provides also the last name of this person: Kaṃvara.

For another copy and further discussion of the content of the document, see K_0469_0003.

3. The scribe does not distinguish between ru and . Thus the name could be also read as "Rupanātha". The standard spelling is used in the translation. []

4. The date corresponds to 18 June 1832. []
